Well, folks, here we are again ... another summer gone by all too quickly. Kids going back to school any day now; college kids already there.  The holiday season is right behind.

This time of year always gets me to thinking: How many parents with overweight kids, who were overweight last school year, and the year before that and the year before that, are sending their kids back to school overweight again this year? A year older, a grade higher, and heavier? Hmm... how do you feel about that? Going to put it off again? Think they'll grow taller and grow out up and out of being fat?

I also start thinking and talking to clients now about the holidays—the Jewish high holy days in September, the Halloween parties, parades and Trick-or-Treating in October, Thanksgiving in November, Hanukkah and Christmas in December, culminating in the year-ending/year-beginning New Year's Eve celebrations. Whew ... bing, bang, boom ... one after the other in rapid fire. The pace is fast and furious.

How many of you, at this same time last year, would have bet good money that THIS year all your weight would be gone ... that you'd never allow yourself to go into one more holiday season being overweight or obese? Time sure flies, doesn't it? ... and the same amount of time you lost is also just ahead of you.  Don't waste it ... again.

Don't tell yourself that this is the wrong time to begin weight loss ... again. Don't throw caution to the wind with a promise to yourself to start after the holidays ... again. It is much better to start now, to have some discipline, guidance, structure and accountability throughout the holiday season than to make a promise to yourself to start after the New Year. Who will hold you to that promise? The same person to whom you made it last year ... namely, yourself? If you don't do it now, you WILL—absolutely—be heavier after the holidays than you are right now. And it's avoidable.  Don't start this fall/winter season the same way you started the last one.

To all those who tell us "I can't"
... I can't change my diet
... I can't do the work
... I can't lose weight
... I can't give up the junk
... I can't do this, I can't do that
... oh, really?!
Take a good look at this olympian ...

... and then tell us what you CAN'T do, OK?

We can't solve problems by using
the same kind of thinking we used
when we created them.

When it comes to weight loss, and also to weight maintenance, there are 3 things that we are in control of 99% of the time: the WHAT, the HOW MUCH and the WHEN we eat!

Cheating Bad. Planning to Indulge Good.

There's no such thing as a good 'cheat.'

"Mom, why am I fat?"

Because of the childhood obesity epidemic, kids are now suffering from diseases once seen only in adults. Here's a short but hard-hitting ad that was directed to Georgia parents where childhood obesity is second highest in the nation. However, replace the word "Georgia" with "Anytown, USA," and the same applies. If you're an overweight or obese parent with overweight or obese kids ... this video is FOR YOU!

Snoring: Nothing to Yawn About

Given their weight, too many of our clients suffer from chronic snoring and sleep apnea. Unfortunately, they and others too often think of it as 'just' a snoring or sleeping problem. In truth, sleep apnea poses many serious, even life-threatening health consequences.

As clients know from visits to  the  office or  from previous  newsletters,  when  we hear great feedback about a business or practitioner who provides great service or products as relates to health, wellness and fitness, we like to share it, and we do that today: Dr. Michael Doblin, DDS, with two offices in New Jersey, has advanced training and expertise in the field of dental sleep medicine. With custom-made appliances, he can give you relief from CPAP machines and masks and alleviate your snoring. Get slim with us. Get sleep with him.
