Gastroparesis is a disorder where the movement of food is slowed or stopped, and the stomach takes too long to empty. It interferes with digestion, causes nausea, vomiting and dehydration, and plays havoc with blood sugar.
While weight gain by itself is not a known risk factor for gastroparesis, it is a major risk factor for diabetes. Excessive visceral fat also creates hormonal imbalances, and it is known that both diabetes and hormonal balances are risk factors for gastroparesis.
