The Liver

Along with the stomach, esophagus, intestines, gallbladder and pancreas, the liver is one of the main components in the gastrointestinal tract, and it plays a large role in the control of one’s metabolism, protein production and body detoxification.
Having too much visceral fat is harmful because it secretes dangerous hormones and inflammatory chemicals.
If you’re very overweight or obese, the blood that circulates through visceral fat drains into the portal vein, which leads directly into your liver.
A healthy liver contains a small amount of fat. It becomes a problem when fat reaches 5% to 10% of your liver’s weight.
Why is a fatty liver bad?
Well, in most cases, a fatty liver doesn’t cause any serious problems or prevent your liver from functioning normally. But for about 30% of people with the condition, it progresses through three stages of disease:
1️⃣ Your liver becomes inflamed (swollen), which damages its tissue. This stage is called 𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑎𝑡𝑜ℎ𝑒𝑝𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑠.
2️⃣ Scar tissue forms where your liver is damaged. This process is called 𝑓𝑖𝑏𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑠.
3️⃣ Extensive scar tissue replaces healthy tissue. At this point, you have 𝑐𝑖𝑟𝑟ℎ𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑣𝑒𝑟.
