Seeking Help is Not Weakness

I’ve met way too many people over the years who waited so long to reach out to me for help because they thought it a sign of weakness that they couldn’t lose weight on their own. And, too often unfortunately, those around them – especially a spouse – would be less than encouraging, with remarks like, “Why do you need to spend money for help to lose weight? You know what to do, just eat better.

Here’s the thing, however.

I don’t care WHAT a person needs help with – losing weight, getting clean and sober, overcoming a gambling habit, breaking away from a dead-end job into a new career, starting your own business, and the list is long. Recognizing you have a problem, and then being resourceful in researching and seeking a source and asking for help is, in my opinion, what it takes to be emotionally STRONG.

And in my business, those who recognize their need to lose weight to get healthy, who had the courage to reach out to me, and then followed through and showed up for the consultation . . . well, they’re a heck of a lot stronger than they give themselves credit for!

“Asking for help does not mean that we are weak or incompetent. It usually indicates an advanced level of honesty and intelligence.” ~ Anne Wilson Schaef

Absolutely.
