PCOS is one of the most misdiagnosed endocrine diseases.
Facts:
1️⃣ It’s the #1 cause of infertility in females of child-bearing age; yet . . .
2️⃣ As PCOS females get older, their chances for pregnancy may 𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑟𝑒𝑎𝑠𝑒. The reproductive peak for PCOS is often later.
3️⃣ It can cause significant hair loss, also known as Androgenetic Alopecia; yet . . .
4️⃣ It can cause Hirsutism: excessive hair 𝑔𝑟𝑜𝑤𝑡ℎ on places like the face, abdomen, back and chest.
5️⃣ It’s a genetic condition and runs in families. Even men can carry the genes for PCOS.
6️⃣ Many females with moderate to severe acne have PCOS.
7️⃣ PCOS females have insulin resistance: The body’s cells don’t respond normally to insulin, glucose can’t enter the cells as easily, so it builds up in the blood. This disrupts healthy metabolism, leading to weight gain.
Over 30 years, Weight★No★More℠ Diet Center has helped hundreds of PCOS females to lose weight — sometimes for the first time in their lives! — to balance hormones and to regulate menstrual cycles. We have such knowledge in this area that while we certainly do get physician referrals from time to time of patients diagnosed with PCOS, more often, believe it or not, it is WE who recognize a female’s symptoms as PCOS and insist she see an endocrinologist—𝑡ℎ𝑒 hormone specialist, the doctor that should have been seen first!
Way too often, young girls and teens have all the symptoms, some all at once, some come on slowly one at a time, and they spend years trying to tackle each issue:
😢 weight gain and irregular periods: the pediatrician.
😢 bad skin: the dermatologist.
😢 body/face hair: the electrologist.
😢 irregular or absence of menstrual cycles: the gynecologist.
😢 and, inevitably, depression/social anxieties: the psychologist or LCSW.
. . . and all the while PCOS is left unattended . . . and the pounds keep coming on, and the symptoms keep getting more pronounced.
There’s no cure for PCOS but it is manageable! Maintaining a healthy weight is crucial in that regard.
