In Yyour Relationships, Are You Always Doing the Talking?

Do you ever really listen, or do you only hear?

Hearing is simply perceiving sound by the ear. If you are not hearing-impaired, hearing simply happens.

Listening is something you consciously choose to do. It requires concentration for your brain to process meaning from words and sentences.

Listening leads to learning.

How can you have a healthy relationship with yourself if you never listen to what others are saying and take seriously what they are saying?

How can you have good, meaningful, trustworthy relationships if you only hear people and “yes” them at every turn, but don’t act on any advice, counsel, and guidance (and, yes, pleading) they give you when it comes to your health? Aren’t you, then, conveying that their concern for you is irrelevant?

When those who love you are genuinely scared because they see how your weight affects you (and oftentimes, by extension, them) physically and emotionally, and you take no action to improve your health despite their sincerity in telling you how they feel . . . well, eventually they stop conveying their feelings and pull away. And relationships change.

Your relationship with yourself is the foundation for everything.
