Prioritize Your Health, Not Your Hair

Let’s cut to the chase. I see it all the time: women (and plenty of men, too) dropping serious cash on hair salons, nail appointments, facials, massages, and high-end cosmetics. They’ll spend countless hours and hundreds of dollars to make sure their hair is sleek, their nails are pristine, and their skin glows like they just stepped out of a spa ad. And don’t get me wrong—self-care is great. A good manicure or a fresh cut can make you feel like a million bucks. But here’s the hard truth: all that effort on the outside doesn’t mean a damn thing if you’re ignoring the bigger issue — your health, your body, and the extra weight you’re carrying.

My job is to call it like I see it, and I see too many people prioritizing superficial fixes over the real work of transforming their bodies. If you’re one of them, you’ll spend $150 on a facial or $200 on hair extensions, but when it comes to investing in a nutrition plan or a personal trainer to help you shed the fat that’s dragging down your health, suddenly the wallet’s empty? Come on. Gimme a break.

Why the Disconnect?

Why do so many people—especially women—pour money into looking good on the surface while neglecting the fat that’s literally weighing them down?

It’s simple: changing your body is hard. It takes discipline, commitment, and a willingness to get uncomfortable. Getting your nails done? That’s a couple of hours of pampering with instant results and someone else doing the work. Overhauling your eating habits or working out with a trainer? That’s work. It’s sweat. It’s saying no to the late-night pizza and yes to the early-morning gym session. It’s not glamorous, and it doesn’t give you that instant gratification. But it is what matters.

Carrying excess weight isn’t just about how you look in a dress or a pair of jeans. It’s about your health. It’s about the strain on your heart and joints, and about your energy levels. It’s about the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, and a dozen other conditions that don’t care how flawless your makeup is. And you can’t manicure your way out of a health crisis.

Where’s Your Money Going?

Let’s break it down. Average costs for a few common spa services:

Fingers: Manicure $25-60
Toes: Pedicure $25-60
Face: Facials $80-100
Face: Electrolysis $50-100
Eyebrows: $20-2,000
Hair: $60-200
Body: Massage $50-150

When you factor in that, for many, one or more of these services are weekly or monthly events, add gratuities to the service provider, and then account for “products” that you’ll buy — bath oils, body lotions, shampoos, conditioners, to name a few — and you’re easily looking at $500 or more per month.

Now, compare that to what it costs to work with a weight loss coach or a personal trainer. A healthy weight loss plan and/or a few training sessions might cost less than your monthly spa budget, but the payoff is life changing. You’re not just “fixing” your appearance for a day—you’re building habits that transform your body, your energy, and your future.

I’m not saying you should skip the salon or toss your high-end mascara. Looking good can boost your confidence, and that’s important. But when you’re spending hundreds, thousands, on superficial feel-goods while claiming you “can’t afford” to invest in your health, it’s time to rethink your priorities. Is your hair more important than your heart? Are your toes more valuable than your lifespan?

The Real Investment

Here’s the deal: changing your body isn’t just about money — it’s about effort. It’s about showing up for yourself, even when it’s tough. You need to make a lasting change. No quick fixes, no temporary feel-goods, no bullshit—just real results. You don’t need a fancy spa day to feel good about yourself. You need to move, eat smarter, and commit to the process. You need to change your behaviors to change your habits to change your body. The confidence that comes from a healthier, stronger body? That’s worth more than any blowout or pedicure.

So, next time you’re about to drop $100 or more on a facial, ask yourself: why not invest that in whittling down the fat and building a healthier you? Your body deserves it. Your future deserves it. Stop hiding behind false eyelashes and start doing the work that counts.
