Portion Control for Wine

Lori Boxer

A single serving of wine, whether it be red, white, rosé, or bubbly, will have between 105 and 125 calories and, if you’re over-pouring, those calories can add up quickly.

Also, different wine glasses hold different amounts.

🍷 The standard white wine glass can hold 8 to 12 oz of wine.

🍷 The standard red wine glass holds 12-14 oz, and some large glasses for red wine can hold up to 22 oz!

🍷 The Champagne glass, in the shape of a flute, is usually thin and long and can hold up to 6 oz of sparkling wine.

Just as you control your food portions, if you want to lose weight or want to maintain the weight you’ve lost, you need to control the portions of your drinks. Over-pouring leads to oversized drinking. And we all know where over-sized drinking leads. Aside from getting tipsy, it leads to over-sized calories — and not just from the over-sized drinking but from the over-sized grazing that accompanies it.

I recommend you check out the clear-glass MIP Wine Glass that measures 2, 4, 6 and 8 oz. (Both have measuring lines for 2, 4, 6, and 8 oz., one with numbers and the other without.

Here are direct links to where you can see them at Amazon:

MIP wine Glass (with measuring lines and visible numbers for 2, 4, 6, and 8 oz.)

MIP wine glass (with discreet measuring lines for 2, 4, 6, and 8 oz., but without the numbers)

Whether you purchase these glasses, or any other model, DO make sure you aren’t eyeballing your wine. If you DON’T measure your wine, you WON’T come out on the “losing” side.
