If, as I did, you ever wondered about the difference between marinara sauce and pasta sauce:
✅ A big difference between the two is that marinara is a much simpler sauce, requiring fewer ingredients and less cooking time than spaghetti sauce. Pasta sauce is more robust and complex, with a longer ingredient list and rich flavor.
✅ Marinara does not typically contain meat, while pasta sauce does, which gives marinara a thinner texture.
✅ Marinara is traditionally used as a dipping use, while pasta sauce is not.
✅ Marinara is perfect, of course, for pizza, and may even be labeled as “pizza sauce” on a store label, while pasta sauce is not.
In my house, on rare occasions when we make pasta, we use marinara sauce, not pasta sauce, BECAUSE it is lighter.
When you need the convenience of a prepared sauce versus making your own, here are two excellent choices that are both low in sodium and high in flavor. They are also both no-sugar-added, low-fat, gluten-free, and kosher. Additionally, neither one is made with plum tomatoes or contains bargain basement ingredients like tomato puree, tomato paste or soybean oil. Both are made with imported real tomatoes as well as quality olive oil. Both are well-balanced sauces and without the acidity of so many other store-bought marinara sauces.
Serving size: ½ cup = 1 V.
Using my NJ office zip code in the store locators for these items, I saw that Shoprite and Wegman’s (among other stores) carry both products. And, of course, you can also buy these online via Amazon.
Check them both out. 👇
