Coffee is Not for Weight Loss

Folks, be wary of the “weight loss coffee” MLM (multi-level marketing) schemes — selling the idea that caffeine can burn fat and lead to weight loss; who market and sell caffeine pills and other types of caffeine supplements as ways to lose weight.

Coffee can help weight loss the same way that eating a slice of pizza while on the treadmill can help weight loss.

Namely, it’s crap.

The reality?

Americans lead the world in coffee consumption, drinking over 400 million cups a day, yet have the twelfth highest obesity rate. Hmmm 🤔 . . . maybe the fact that coffee is often linked with eating (cookies, cakes, biscuits, donuts, bars) has something to do with that, eh? Ya think?

Now, here’s what we do know about coffee for a fact:

❌ It contains caffeine which can raise blood pressure.

❌ Caffeine causes insomnia (which can promote weight gain).

❌ Caffeine is acidic and can cause or worsen acid reflux and heartburn symptoms.

❌ Caffeine can cause anxiety and panic attacks.

❌ Caffeine can trigger IBS and other digestive problems.

❌ Caffeine is a stimulant, which can cause sugar cravings.

❌ Caffeine is addictive.

A plain cup or two or three of coffee a day isn’t going to hurt anyone (unless, of course, your doctor tells you it will), but drink it because you enjoy it. It’s never, ever going to be a weight loss tool.

One final, important point: Coffee should NEVER be used as a meal replacement or substitute for food!
