There is a connection between body fat and complexion.

Excess weight leads to higher blood pressure, insulin resistance and hormonal changes — all of which raises acne risk.

Teens who frequently eat fried, oily foods and sweets have more “bad skin days.” This is because when those foods are a regular part of one’s diet, the blood sugar spikes, and when it does it causes inflammation throughout the body. These spikes also cause a body to make more 𝐬𝐞𝐛𝐮𝐦, an oily substance in the skin. Both inflammation and excess sebum can lead to acne and/or make it worse.

Conversely, eating more raw veggies will reduce breakouts significantly, and the antioxidants and vitamins in fruits and veggies helps reduce inflammation associated with skin problems.

Maintaining a healthy weight helps teens (and people of all ages) avoid complexion problems.
