This is the time of the year that I implore people to focus on their overweight or obesity. The fall feeding frenzy is upon us, beginning with the Halloween candy you'll start to see everywhere you go this month, followed by the Jewish holidays, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year's Eve. With an attitude of, "I'll wait until after the holidays . . ." you give yourself an excuse to throw caution to the wind and to go through all the holiday meals and festivities with abandon. I have yet to meet a new client in January who did NOT gain even more weight during the holiday season, and who wished they had come in a few months' sooner.

Don't tell yourself that this is the wrong time to begin weight loss . . . again. Don't throw caution to the wind with a promise to start after the holidays or in the new year . . . again. It is much better to start now, to have some discipline, guidance, structure and accountability throughout the holiday season so that you can begin the new year feeling wonderful and in control. If you don't do it now, you will certainly gain weight over the holidays, and it IS avoidable.

Don't start 2017 the same way you began last year and the year before that . . . and the year before that.

~ Lori Boxer

Will you begin the new year
the same way you began the old ones?

"There's this awfully skinny guy at work . . . he took me to lunch yesterday and we had a salad. Then we split a strawberry yogurt after work. Today he wants me to come to his place for steamed eggplant and freshly squeezed broccoli juice."

"If you don't like him, why don't you just tell him 'NO'?"

"I can't. I'm losing weight."
